New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye isn’t shying away from the fact that winning the AFC East division and making the playoffs was a Day 1 goal for the team when Mike Vrabel arrived as the new head coach.
However, he’s also humble enough to realize that it’s way too early to be talking about the playoffs. The Patriots improved to 4-2 after last week’s win over the New Orleans Saints. There are still plenty of games left to go before people start celebrating a playoff berth.
“I think we’re just trying to keep going, one week at a time,” Maye told reporters. “That’s been the goal since we got here. What Coach Vrabel has put on the goals of winning the division, making the playoffs and having home playoff games. So, that’s been the goal in mind since we got here. So, it’s not too early for me to get ahead onto it, but it is a little bit early calling it. So, just trying to keep playing, and if it happens to get there, that’ll be some fun.”
It’s easy to understand the optimism surrounding the Patriots with the way they’ve been playing this season.
They have one of the easiest schedules in the league, and Maye has been playing at an MVP level. At this point, it would be a disappointment if they failed to make the postseason.
The team will continue its bid to turn the playoff dream into a reality when it travels on the road to face the Tennessee Titans in Nashville on Sunday.
