Jayden Daniels led the Washington Commanders to a win over the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday in his first game back from injury.
The former LSU football quarterback threw for 231 yards and a touchdown. He completed 57% of his passing attempts and added eight carries for 39 yards, including a long of 12 yards, inside SoFi Stadium.
Down by 10 heading into the second quarter, Daniels led a 74-yard touchdown drive that included a 16-yard conversion through the air on third and 16, followed by a 21-yard pass to Deebo Samuel. The game was knotted at 10 apiece heading into halftime.
The Commanders’ defense didn’t allow another point in the contest, giving Daniels and the offense space to pull ahead. They found the end zone on their first offensive possession coming out of the break. Daniels threw passes of 28 and 11 yards in the scoring drive.
On the Commanders’ final offensive possession of the game, they used a 13-play, 99-yard drive to increase their lead to 27-10. Daniels scrambled for 12 yards on second and 16, then on fourth and seven, he found Samuel in the end zone for an 8-yard strike.
Daniels hadn’t played since Week 2 against the Green Bay Packers due to a left knee sprain. He missed two games but returned for the start on Sunday.
