The Commanders got a gift on Thursday in the Dallas/Green Bay trade.
Or did they?
When Dallas traded their unhappy All-Pro pass rusher Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers, it meant the Commanders would no longer be forced to face Parsons twice each regular season, seeing that he was traded out of the NFC East.
Ben Standig provided some numbers from Parsons that show he has clearly performed better against the Commanders than he has against the Eagles or the Giants. Sure enough, Parsons, while a Dallas Cowboy, loved to face the Commanders as he produced more quarterback sacks, tackles for a loss, and quarterback hits against Washington than against New York or Philadelphia.
Yet, might there be another way to look at Parsons’ past success against Washington and possible future matchups against the Commanders? Yes, the Commanders will no longer be facing Parsons twice during the regular season. However, there is an irony that the Commanders might actually face Parsons twice this 2025 season.
There is the Week 2 short week Thursday Night Football matchup that will take place in Lambeau. Washington will have to travel to face the Packers in Green Bay and their newly traded All-Pro pass rusher, who has terrorized the Commanders.
Furthermore, Dallas was not widely regarded as a threat to win the NFC East this season. However, the Packers, a solid playoff team in 2024, now could be a major Super Bowl threat. Consequently, though the Commanders won’t face Parsons in the regular season twice, if they are going to get out of the NFC this season, they may have to face Parsons and the Packers a second time, with much more at stake.
The Commanders may actually find Micah Parsons to be a bigger threat to them this season than previously, and that is hard to believe for those who have observed Parsons have his way with the Commanders.
