While the Washington Commanders are having a down season in 2025, it’s been a career year for left guard Chris Paul. A seventh-round pick from Tulsa in 2022, Paul was almost an afterthought when new GM Adam Peters and head coach Dan Quinn took over in 2024.
But while Paul didn’t win a starting job in 2024, he took advantage of his opportunities, earning the trust of his new coaches. And after an impressive training camp, the Commanders inserted Paul as the new starting left guard in Week 3. He’s remained there ever since, with Washington coaches repeatedly praising his performance.

Paul isn’t the only member of his family having a banner 2025: Patrick Paul, Chris’ younger brother by three years, is in his second NFL season. A second-round pick from Houston in 2024, Patrick appeared in all 17 games as a rookie for the Miami Dolphins last season. He started three games, but this season, Paul has taken over as Miami’s starting left tackle and has quickly developed into one of the NFL’s best young offensive tackles.
On Sunday, the Paul brothers will reunite as opponents. While they won’t share the field together, it will be a special moment for them.
This week, the Commanders and Dolphins are playing in Madrid. It’s the NFL’s first-ever game in Madrid. It allowed the two brothers to spend some time together ahead of Week 11, something they’ve been unable to do this year.
Record-wise, it’s been a tough year for Washington and Miami. Both are 3-7 entering Sunday and need a win. But for these two brothers, it’s been a year to remember. It also comes at the perfect time for Chris. His rookie contract expires after the season. He will get a big raise. He’s proven he’s a capable starter, and he’ll be only 27 when free agency begins in March.

Ideally, the Commanders lock him up. However, if they don’t, perhaps he could reunite with his brother in 2026.
