The San Francisco 49ers appear to be on track to be without wide receiver Ricky Pearsall in Week 10 when they host the Los Angeles Rams at Levi’s Stadium.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan on Wednesday told reporters Pearsall would be out of Wednesday’s practice. He hasn’t practiced since injuring his knee in a Week 4 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. The issue wasn’t expected to be long-term, but a non-participation for Pearsall on Wednesday is a sign that points toward the second-year WR not returning for Week 10.
Despite the problem lingering longer than anticipated, Shanahan reiterated that nothing has gone wrong in Pearsall’s recovery.
“It’s just the same as what I said last week,” Shanahan said. “No setback. Just taking longer to heal than we thought.”
Pearsall is the only player Shanahan ruled out ahead of Wednesday’s session. He also said linebacker Dee Winters will be limited with a knee injury. LB Tatum Bethune (thigh), center Jake Brendel (hamstring), defensive end Bryce Huff (hamstring) and quarterback Brock Purdy (toe) are all slated for limited practices.
Winters played in Week 9 after hurting his knee in Week 8 vs. the Houston Texans. Bethune’s injury is new and wasn’t mentioned by Shanahan after the game or in his Monday conference call. That will be worth monitoring closely since he’s Fred Warner’s replacement. Brendel had a chance to suit up in Week 9, but was eventually ruled out, and Shanahan expressed optimism that Huff will be able to play after hurting his hamstring in Week 7.
The official participation report will be released after Wednesday’s practice.
