Lakers jersey history No. 11 — Michael Beasley

Through the 2024-25 season, the Los Angeles Lakers have had a total of 506 players suit up for them, going back to their days in Minneapolis. Some were forgettable, some were serviceable, some were good and a select few were flat-out legendary.

As the Lakers embark on their 80th season of existence (they were founded back in 1946 as the Detroit Gems in the National Basketball League), LeBron Wire is taking a look at each player who has worn their jersey, whether it has been a purple and gold one or the ones they donned back in the Midwest during their early years.

Michael Beasley, the No. 2 pick in the 2008 NBA Draft, was one of the game’s more naturally talented scorers during his prime. A 6-foot-9, 235-pound forward, he could get buckets in bunches, and during his lone season at Kansas State University, he averaged 26.2 points on 53.2% field-goal shooting and 12.4 rebounds a game.

But for whatever reason, he never quite lived up to his potential in the pros. His best effort came in his third NBA season when he averaged 19.2 points a game with the Minnesota Timberwolves, but he never averaged as many as 15 points a game in any other season.

Beasley signed with the Lakers as a free agent during the summer of 2018. Coming off the bench in all but two of his 26 games with them, he logged seven points in 10.7 minutes a game. In early February, the Lakers traded him and Ivica Zubac to the Los Angeles Clippers for Mike Muscala, and it was a deal that was widely criticized by many. Beasley was waived by the Clippers shortly afterward, and he never played in the NBA again.
