Billings downs Glacier in rain-shortened affair

BILLINGS — Jack O’Dowd homered for the Billings Mustangs during a five-run first inning as the Mustangs took a commanding 12-3 lead before rain forced an early end to their game against the Glacier Range Riders after five innings at Dehler Park Tuesday.

The two teams continued a stretch of 12 consecutive matchups in the Magic City after Glacier took five of six at Glacier Bank Park last week.

The Range Rider bats started the day hot as John Mabry and TJ Clarkson singled to open the game. Jack Lynch hit an RBI single later in the inning to put Glacier ahead 1-0 before they stranded three runners on the bases.

Billings answered right away, loading the bases in the bottom of the first as J McHenry and C Muniz singled to make it 2-1 Mustangs. O’Dowd then launched one out of the park in right-center extending the advantage to 5-1.

Mabry cut it to 5-3 with a two-run double in the top of the second, scoring Clarkson and Donovan Ratfield.

Xavier Casserilla, who now features for the Mustangs after playing for the Range Riders as recently as Friday, hit a two-run homer in the third inning for his new team.

The Mustangs’ bats kept rolling though as Kyle Micklus homered in the fifth to make it 8-3, McHenry and Muniz added to their big nights with a pair of two-RBI hits as Billings led 12-3.

Glacier loaded the bases in the top of the sixth before the storm, but play never resumed.
